Around the Cup

The Women's World Cup started earlier today when France took on Nigeria. The French expected to win in easy fashion but only came out of the game with 1 goal. That goal still managed to get them the win. Germany battled Canada in the second game. Germany came out with the 2-0 lead. In the 82nd minute Canada got a big goal. They lost, but that goal was huge for the Canadians. The next matchup in that group will be France and Canada. That will be a very exciting match. The Americans will start on Tuesday versus North Korea. These two teams do have a history against each other. They will leave all of it behind when they take the field. The Americans also have to play on July 2 against Colombia and have to finish up on the 6th when they face off with Sweden. This World Cup is finally off and running. The committee did a great job planning this. Over 87,000 were at the stadium today. All eyes will be watching when players from all around the world represent their countries.

NBA Draft Preview

Tonight the stars of college basketball will take the next step into their career. The Cavs are still debating over who they should pick with the #1 pick. The two candidates are Derrick Williams and Kyrie Irving. They also have the fourth pick after they won it at the NBA Draft Lottery. I think Irving is explosive but Williams I think will be a better player to try to build a franchise around. Each will obviously have big expectations. Irving only played 11 games. He is a great player, but he has not proven to me that he can be a star in the NBA. A big question is if Kemba Walker can be a star. He to me, is one of the most reliable draft picks that you could take. He is a proven winner. He actually played for an AAU team in NYC near me. There are a couple good draft picks that a team later on in the 1st round could get. JaJuan Johnson is a solid pick who could go in the last five picks of the 1st round. The player that I think will most likely be a star is Alec Burks. At 8:00, the future stars will start the beginning of their NBA profession.

Now or Never

In just a couple hours the Vancouver Canucks will battle with the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The crowd in Vancouver will be rowdy. The Sedin twins have not stepped up in these last couple of games. Although their struggles, I think they will play well. This series has been all you could ask for and more. There has been biting, hard hitting, and an OT goal. Tonight I think the Canucks will take it and hoist the crown. Vancouver will be roaring tonight for Game 7. Everybody will be watching when both teams take the ice.

Edge of the Cliff

Cornerback and Wide Receiver of Oregon, Cliff Harris, got caught going at a speed of 118 MPH in a car that he got from an employee at Oregon. The amazing athlete out of California could follow in LaMichael James' footsteps. James got suspended for the first game of Oregon's season last year. They still blew New Mexico out 72-0. This year however, Oregon battles LSU in the season opener. Harris was a key to success for the Ducks last year. If Harris is out for that first game it would be a huge loss for the team up in Eugene. We can only watch how the rest of this story plays out.

Getting it Done

After all the years of waiting, the Mavs have finally got the title they have waited for. Dirk is in an elite club of great players now that he got his ring. The final score was 105-95. Dirk has carried this team through the years, but this year everybody played their part. Terry came firing out of the gates. He had 19 points in the 1st half. The win is Dallas' first franchise title. The Mavs finally got revenge on Miami from 2006. The Big 3 will have to restart their chase for a title next year. It seems like just yesterday that LeBron was on 'The Decision.' Next thing you know, Dallas will start their quest for a repeat. All I have to say is that it was a great season.

The Heatles' Last Breath

The whole NBA season LeBron James was criticized for 'taking his talents to South Beach.' Him and the Heat faced every bump in the road, but finally made it to the Finals. The Mavs flew under the radar for most of the year, but after they swept the Lakers, everybody knew they were for real. In Game 4, Dirk Nowitzki had a temperature of 102 degrees. He was sick the whole game but he lead his team to victory. LeBron and Wade were caught mocking him being sick. That stirred up some controversy. This series has been a fun one but it will come to an end tonight. I have had the Mavs to win this series from the beginning so I have to stay with them here. I just think that the Mavs will go into this game with the mindset that this is Game 7. The whole world will be watching when the Mavs and Heat battle it out in the Magic City.

Battle in the Big-D

In just a matter of minutes, the Heat and Mavs will battle in Dallas. With the series tied 2-2, both teams will try to have the advantage going into Miami for Game 6. The Mavs know that if they don't win tonight that their title chances are slim. I think that DeShawn Stevenson will back up his words and be the X-Factor tonight. It will be a hard fought game but in the end, the Mavs will come out on top. Everybody will be watching when the stars take the floor in the Big-D.

Crunchtime Performer

After the Heat escaped in Game 3, the Mavs are looking to even the series up at two games a piece. Dirk called out Jason Terry and said that he has not been good in 'crunch time.' If you are a Dallas fan, you hope these words will motivate Terry. I think that is exactly what they will do. Although I don't like calling out a player when you are this far into the Playoffs. I think the Mavs' bench will come alive. This game will be close but Dallas will pull away in the end. The Mavs will be rolling on all cylinders. All eyes will be on the Heat and Mavs when they take the floor in the Big-D.

Pryor's Farewell

Earlier today Terrelle Pryor announced that he will not stay at Ohio State for his senior season. He was supposed to miss the first five games due to selling memorabilia in return for tattoos. I find it sad how the NCAA is fine with making money off these kids but they don't even care about their education. Now that Pryor is gone, he has a couple of choices. He is going to spend the summer with a trainer to work on his skills. He can either try to enter the Supplemental Draft, play for the Canadian Football League [CFL], or he can use this next year to train for the 2012 NFL Draft. Nobody really knows what Pryor is going to do, all we know is that he will not put on a Buckeye jersey again. Here is a picture of Pryor as a Buckeye:

Title Stripped

This afternoon the NCAA stripped USC of its 2004 National Championship. They ruled that Reggie Bush had received improper benefits and was ineligible for the 2004 season. This is the first time a college football team has had a title stripped in the poll era, which began in 1936. The Trojans are still on a 1-year bowl ban from Bush's allegations. They will not be able to participate in the PAC-12's inaugural championship game. It looks like things can't get that much worse for the Trojans and their fan base.

Released!

After being put in jail on September 22, 2009, Plaxico Burress was released today. The Super Bowl champion shot himself in the leg at a club. At the hospital, he claimed to be someone else. While in custody, he missed the birth of his child. His family flew down to Florida to greet Burress. Here is a picture of the star as he was released:

Magic City Duel

The Mavs and Heat will battle in the Magic City for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. After last game, when nobody on Dallas could really get going, they will try to redeem themselves. The bench did not play like the bench we know. Terry and Barea did not put up the numbers that they are used and they were missing open shots. The Heat will try to go into Dallas with the 2-0 advantage. LeBron has stepped up lately and has been proving himself throughout the playoffs. Wade came up big late when him and James just took over the game. Tonight I think Shawn Marion will play well and will get more touches down in the paint. I like Dallas to steal this game and go back to Dallas with a chip on their shoulder. The whole world will be watching when the Mavs and Heat take the floor.

Two Countries, One Championship

The Stanley Cup starts in just a matter of moments. The Bruins will try to go into Vancouver and quiet the crowd. Roberto Luongo has played well these Playoffs and will continue to do so tonight. The Sedin twins will come out rolling on all cylinders. Zdeno Charo will play well for the Bruins. In the end I think the Canucks will get the win. Vancouver will be roaring tonight when the puck drops to start the Stanley Cup Finals.
